This weekend, I had so much fun photographing brothers I and A, as well as brothers L and D. I have known these two lovely mamas since our oldest kiddos were babies in a local playgroup. Yay, spring is near, the rain has stopped (did I just jinx it?) and I am feeling like doing a little contest... Keep reading!

So some of you might know of my obsession for finding a rad new chair - something out of the ordinary, a little funky, a little crazy - you know, something that would be awesome to photograph my beautiful subjects on - a kiddo, a family, an expecting mama... I have been looking, searching, and leaving my phone number with Salvation Army stores, and nothing. So it hit me.. maybe YOU have the winning chair!

So here it is folks - I am holding a contest in search for the FUNKIEST CHAIR. Maybe it's sitting in your garage collecting dust, maybe it's on display in your living room, maybe you found it sitting next to the dumpster. Whatever way you got it, I want to photograph you on it! Send in a photo of your chair, chaise, couch, settee, ottoman - whatever you don't mind shlepping to our shoot location, and I will pick the most unique, funnest, coolest, most original, cutest or funkiest one. The winning chair owner(s) will receive one free session with me featuring the winning chair, and one free 8x10 from the session.

This evening, I had the pleasure of meeting little Finn, and his adorable siblings, and beautiful parents. I had a ton of fun photographing this family. The kids were absolutely adorable and full of life. Finn is 9 months old and as cute as can be. Our shoot was scheduled for tomorrow, but since the forecast calls for rain tomorrow, we decided to attempt the shoot today, and I am so glad we did - the weather was perfect!

I can't believe it has already been a year! I had the pleasure of photographing little Charlie last year when he was just a couple of weeks old, and today, we celebrated his one year portrait session. Mom brought a yummy cake for him for the cake smash - well mom, I think it's safe to say he likes chocolate cake! It was everywhere. Luckily, Charlie's parents are good friends of ours, so mom was not too weirded out by Miss Ava finishing up the cake scraps off of the plexiglass after Charlie's session! Looks who's already 6 months old! Josslyn was my very first newborn shoot - 6 months ago. She is such an adorable little thing! I was so excited to do another shoot for her and watch her grow. I just want to squeeze her little cheekies - she is so sweet!
Oh and in case you're wondering, 'Meadow' is Josslyn's middle name, but also the feel I was going for in this shoot.

Sigh... has it been a year already? I swear it feels like it was just a few months ago that I called Tyler (who was at Lowes buying a lawnmower at the time) and told him to take his time, but that baby Crew #2 might be arriving that night. Good thing he didn't listen to the 'take your time' part and came straight home (lawnmowerless), because when they say that your 2nd baby comes faster than your first, they weren't kidding! I still remember that feeling of anticipation as we stepped out of the car and in front of the hospital doors. We would walk in as a family of three, and walk out as a family of four. As fast as we got to L&D, my baby made her arrival, and Ava was pretty excited to learn that she won the bet - it was a girl!
It's been an awesome year. Happy 1st birthday, my sweet Emma...

You might remember baby Alex's parents, as I did their maternity session a few weeks ago. Well, now they are complete with a beautiful family of four! Congratulations Cindy, Jeremy and big sis Jessica!
Baby Alex is soooo precious - what a yummy little newborn! I just wanted to take him home, lol! Oh, and my blankets thank him - NO poop accidents (very rare when shooting nekkid newborns!)

Finally! I have been promising to shoot my dear friends Leanne and Russ, and their gorgeous daughter, for the longest time, so we finally did it. Yay! You might recognize Miss Brooke from a few posts down (on the slide). Yes, she is Ava's BFF :) Actually, Brooke was my very FIRST 'client'!! I took Brooke's Christmas pictures last year, and I remember coming home thinking 'YES! I SOOOO want to do this... I want to be a photographer!' I am still unpacking from our vacation so I have only worked on a couple shots, but here are some ones I like from last week...

Ok so for anyone who lives in Folsom, you have GOT to shoot in Old Town! I SOOO wish I could shoot here all the time, or at least a lot longer that what I was able to get during our quick walk after lunch (crying baby and tired husband anyone...?). At least I got a few I like!

This might be one of my favorite ones is Miss Ava. Experimenting with different processing...

Um yeah, so this is how 'wild' the deer are in the Sierra's! I think I was like 5 feet away from this lady... Oh and Ava fed her strawberries later on... wild, huh.

This weekend, I had a fun shoot with the cutest little guy, Joey, and his beautiful mom, Toni. We headed to a new location for me, and I can't wait to shoot there again - fun old trains and wooden buildings. Awww, I hear wedding bells soon!
Well ok their wedding is a year away, but this sweet couple is super excited for their big day. This was my first engagement shoot, yay!
We headed to Mission and Pacific Beach on a crowded Saturday evening. We got some good shots, and even convinced the lifeguard to let us shoot a pic with his 'Rescue' surfboard. Thanks buddy!

This was my first maternity shoot, and I was so excited to shoot such a cute couple. They are first time parents and are totally excited for their little baby girl, Isabel's arrival. We headed to a private beach in La Jolla and got some great shots. We had a couple of interesting moments, including the crazy drunk guy that interrupted our shoot and then 'broke into' (ok the gate was unlocked) the house right above the beach... fun times. Anyways, it was pretty overcast that day so I wasn't able to get a fun silhouette during the sunset shot, but that's ok. Jaclyn is glowing and such a beautiful mommy to be. I know they are going to be great parents... I hope you enjoy your sneak peak :) Oh, Jaclyn came over for a few studio shots this week, so I will post those in a few days :) Enjoy....

I had the pleasure of shooting for a sweet family - grandparents, kids and grand kids a couple of weeks ago. They were a fun bunch - all 5 of those grand boys were so handsome and of course there is miss adorable Josslyn that I had the pleasure to shoot when she was a newborn. She has grown so much in one month!
We headed to Balboa Park for this shoot - it's actually where Tyler and I got married, and I remember loving all of the brick and greenery, and thought this would be perfect for a big family shoot.

We are so happy for our good friends V and S... They welcomed their baby boy to the world 5 weeks ago and are so happy! This little guy is destined to be a sports baby... daddy plays hockey and is a big Cowboys fan... What a cutie he is... newborns are so fun. We tried over and over to get him to fit in the helmet, and he did, but it wasn't the comfiest of places to hang out, so he decided to lay on his daddy's jersey instead. PS - Don't tell Tyler about the slight pee pee incident involving his helmet, lol!

Yesterday was try #2 for a shoot with Cameron and Tristan (it started pouring within minutes of our first shoot). Kristina and I go jogging near this old lot with broken down vintage trucks and I always thought it would be so cool to shoot back there. Well, the owner of those old trucks gave me the OK, and I thought it would be perfect for two little boys - well Cameron and Tristan make it easy since they are so stinkin' cute! They were awesome models for me.

When I was pregnant for the fist time, with my beautiful Ava, I swore up and down I would never do the 'princess' thing... I myself, never was a pink, princessy girl. I have no idea how it happened, but my little girl is by far the 'princessiest of them all!'

Welcome to my blog! My name is Sophie and I am an aspiring children's photographer in San Diego, CA. Photography has always been a passion of mine but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I finally decided do take the plunge and swim around in what I have come to truly love - to capture life's moments in their natural beauty. Children are so fun to photograph, you never know what they are going to do!

I have two beautiful daughters that have made photography my passion. They are my little models, although not always compliant!

I hope you will follow along in my journey to professional photography. It's a wild ride, but I sure love it...
